Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) today is a comprehensive system based on
thousands of years of cross-cultural knowledge of the human body and
mind. It is accepted around the globe as a safe, effective and
holistic complement or alternative to contemporary western medicine.

Harmony & Rhythm
TCM
is based primarily on a theory of balanced energy in the body. During your first visit I will conduct a
comprehensive intake to correctly diagnose the pattern of your chief complaint. We will discuss your family and health history as
well as special observations your pulse and tongue. Then work
immediately to restore balance with acupuncture, herbal remedies, and
the various other modalities discussed herein. The intent of acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and
suffering. The method by which this is accomplished, though it may seem strange
and mysterious to many, has been time tested over thousands of years and
continues to be validated today.
The perspective from which an acupuncturist views health and sickness hinges on
concepts of "vital energy". Just
as the Western medical doctor monitors the blood flowing through blood vessels
and the messages traveling via the nervous system, the acupuncturist assesses
the flow and distribution of this "vital energy" within its pathways, known as
"meridians and channels".
Meridians & Qi Flow
TCM
works on the premise of meridian theory: that there are patterns of
energy flow called "Qi" (pronounced chee) throughout the body which are
related to the organs and tendino-muscular system. When the body is in
good health, energy flow is balanced and consistent. However, when
energy flow is disrupted due to trauma, poor diet, medications, stress,
or other factors, pain and illness result.
The acupuncturist is able to influence health and sickness by stimulating
certain areas along these "meridians". Traditionally these areas or "acupoints"
were stimulated by fine, slender needles. Today, many additional forms of
stimulation are incorporated, including herbs, electricity, magnets and lasers.
Still, the aim remains the same - adjust the "vital energy" so the proper amount
reaches the proper place at the proper time. This helps your body heal itself.
What conditions or imbalances can Chinese Medicine Practitioners treat?
Chinese Medicine has been used for thousands of years to keep people
physically and mentally healthy. We have had a lot of success with many
different symptoms and syndromes. Patients are astounded to learn of
the many ailments that acupuncture and chinese herbal medicine treat.
We must keep in mind that this has been the only medical system in use
for those in Asia for thousands of years and patients have been treated
according to the principles of this traditional medicine with great
success.

Here in the United States, it is usually after other treatments have
failed that many patients begin to seek this type of treatment, but
early intervention is always better.
